In 1873, while excavating a hill in north-western Anatolia, the German archeologist Heinrich Schliemann [1822-1890] discovered a cache of treasure from ancient Homeric Troy; authenticity continues to be debated. Image source here.

Schliemann had his Troy discoveries appraised by Carlo Giuliano [1831-1895], who was Queen Victoria's [1819-1901] favored jeweler.

Melbourne was a British statesman who was twice Prime Minister in the 1830s. When the young Queen Victoria ascended to the throne in 1837, she and Melbourne developed a close relationship, with the prime minister tutoring the new queen in government and politics.
