Why don't you pass the time with a game of solitaire?

Dr. Yen Lo: I'm sure you've all heard the old wives' tale that no hypnotized subject may be forced to do that which is repellent to his moral nature, whatever that may be. Nonsense of course.

The 1962 Manchurian Candidate screenplay here.

What's interesting about this film is that it reflected a genuine American Cold War fear about Communists. In 1993, the CIA released a statement about its own hypnosis program and concluded that "it is doubtful that proscribed behavior can be induced against the subject's wishes, though we must admit that crucial experiments to resolve this question have not yet been performed."
